# Comments and @mentions on records

> Discuss a candidate, contact, company or job with your team in its Discussion panel, and @mention teammates to bring them in.

_Collection: Tasks, Notes & Lists (productivity) — Kepler Help Center. Canonical: https://keplercrm.com/support/articles/comments-and-mentions/_

Every candidate, contact, company and job has a **Discussion**: a thread where your team talks about the record, kept next to it instead of in chat or email. Mention a teammate with `@` and they're notified.

## Open the Discussion

On a record page, select the **Discussion** button (the speech bubble, with a count of comments) in the page header, or **Details ›** at the end of the record's tabs and then the **Discussion** tab. The panel opens over the right edge of the page; close it with **Close panel**, `Esc`, or the same button again. On a smaller screen, use the **Discussion** button in the bar at the bottom.

## Post a comment

  - Type in **Add comment…**. Press `Enter` to post, or `Shift+Enter` for a new line.

  - To bring someone in, type `@` and pick a teammate (or use **Mention someone**).

  - To answer a comment, choose **Reply** on it and write in **Reply…**.

A comment can be up to 4,000 characters. **Copy link to comment** gives you a link straight to it.

## Edit or delete

Open **More actions** (⋯) on your comment and choose **Edit** or **Delete**. Edited comments show **(edited)**; only the author can edit. A deleted comment leaves a line saying who deleted it, and if it mentioned someone who hadn't read it yet, their notification is withdrawn.

Owners and admins can also delete other people's comments (**Delete (admin)**), depending on the workspace setting below.

## What a mention does

  - The person gets **[name] mentioned you** in [Notifications](/support/articles/notifications/), under the **Discussion** filter.

  - They also get an email, unless they've turned it off under **Settings → Notifications** → **Mentions and replies** (**Right away** or **Off**).

  - Replies in a thread you're part of notify you the same way.

To stop hearing about a busy record, open **Discussion options** in the panel and choose **Mute this discussion**. Mentions of you still reach you.

## Mentions in notes

Type `@` in a note to tell a teammate about it. The people you mention are listed under the note and notified when you close it. The record's Discussion shows the mention with **Open note**. See [Working with notes](/support/articles/working-with-notes/).

## Catch up quickly

On a long thread, select **Summarise discussion** at the top of the panel for an AI summary of what's been said.

## Workspace settings

Owners and admins set the rules under **Settings → General**, in the **Discussion** section:

  - **Delete anyone's comment**: **Owners and admins** or **Owners only**. Authors can always edit and delete their own.

  - **Comment text in emails**: **Include** quotes the comment in notification emails; **Leave out** names only the teammate and the kind of record.

  - **Comments on candidates / contacts / companies / jobs**: turn the Discussion on or off for each record type.

Automations can post a comment too, with the **Post a comment** block. See [Create, test and publish an automation](/support/articles/create-an-automation/).
