# Creating placements

> Record the deal: placement type, dates, owner, and the linked candidate, job and company.

_Collection: Pipeline Outcomes & Placements (submittals-placements) — Kepler Help Center. Canonical: https://keplercrm.com/support/articles/creating-placements/_

A placement is the commercial record of a successful deal — the candidate, the client, the dates and the money. Placements drive your billing reports and the dashboard's revenue numbers, so accuracy here pays for itself.

## Creating a placement

  - **From the pipeline** — when you **mark an application as placed**, Kepler records the placement and updates the pipeline together; candidate, job and company come pre-linked.

  - **Manually** — open **Placements** and choose **Add Placement**, then link the candidate, job and company. Kepler opens the placement editor so you can complete fees, splits, billing and aftercare details.

## Placement types

Placement **type** is optional. New workspaces start with **Permanent**, **Contract**, **Retained** and **Temporary**, and admins can create, edit or archive additional types. Each type carries its own form template, so the fields you see fit the deal:

| Type | Typical fields |
| --- | --- |
| Permanent | Base salary, additional salary components, equity. |
| Contract | Day rate, working days per week, margin, rate revisions, contract extensions. |
| Retained | Payment split, mandate signed, milestone reached. |
| Temporary | Hourly rate, hours per week, charge rate. |

Templates are configurable per workspace — see [Placement settings](/support/articles/placement-settings/).

## What else a placement carries

  - **Status and start date**, plus the owner — the consultant credited with the deal.

  - **Fee splits** — how the fee divides across the team. See [Fees, aftercare & billing](/support/articles/fees-aftercare-and-billing/).

  - **Invoice & payment status** — badges show billing state at a glance.

  - **Aftercare and guarantee dates** — with automatic reminder tasks.

  - **Notes and linked records** — the candidate, job and company, one click away.

## Where placements appear

  - **Placements** — the workspace list with search, views and filters.

  - **Candidate / Company → Placements** — deal history per record.

  - **Dashboard & Reports** — fee income, invoice and payment status, placements by period and by client.

> **WARN:** Create the placement when the offer is accepted , not when the invoice goes out — date-sensitive automation (guarantee periods, aftercare reminders, extension reviews) counts from the dates you record.
