# Navigating Kepler

> The sidebar, global search, notifications and the layout conventions used across the app.

_Collection: Getting Started (getting-started) — Kepler Help Center. Canonical: https://keplercrm.com/support/articles/navigating-kepler/_

## The sidebar

The sidebar is your map. It's grouped into **General** (Dashboard, Notifications, Assistant, Reports), **Workspace** (Communications, Calendar, Calls, Tasks, Notes) and **Recruiting** (Companies, Contacts, Jobs, Candidates, Pipeline, Placements, Lists). Search sits above the groups, and **Settings** and the Help Center are available from the workspace menu at the top.

Items you don't have permission for are hidden, so your sidebar may be shorter than this.

Drag the sidebar's right edge to resize it, or click the collapse control in the sidebar header to shrink it to icons — useful on smaller screens. Tooltips appear on hover while collapsed.

## Global search

Click **Search** at the top of the sidebar or press `Cmd/Ctrl + K`. The search dialog shows matching records on the left and a live **detail preview** of the selected record on the right. Use the arrow keys to select a result, `Enter` to open it, and `Cmd/Ctrl + Enter` to open the **Assistant**. `Tab` moves focus normally. See [Global search](/support/articles/global-search/).

## Notifications

**Notifications** in the sidebar opens a unified **Inbox** — AI-suggested record updates, suggested tasks and work assigned to you, in one stream. Accept or reject each item in a click; see [Notifications & AI review](/support/articles/notifications/).

## List pages: tables, kanban and views

Record list pages (Candidates, Jobs, Companies and so on) share the same controls:

  - **Views** — save a named combination of filters, sorting, visible columns and display mode. Switch between views with one click.

  - **Display mode** — table or kanban. Kanban groups records by a status/select field of your choice.

  - **Filters & sort** — stack any number of attribute filters and sort rules; drag sort rules to re-order their priority.

  - **Inline editing** — click a cell to edit it in place; no need to open the record.

See [Views, filters & sorting](/support/articles/views-filters-and-sorting/).

## Record pages: tabs

Record pages show the tabs relevant to that record type. A candidate record includes Overview, Profile, Documents, Pipeline, Interviews, Placements, Lists, Communications, Calls, Notes, Tasks and History. The **History** tab is the chronological timeline of everything that happened on the record: stage moves, notes, meetings, field updates and logged calls. See [The History tab](/support/articles/activity-timeline/).
